Updated University COVID vaccine guidelines

After evaluating current public health guidance, and in consultation with our own medical and public health experts, The University of New Mexico will no longer require the COVID-19 primary vaccine series for students and employees, effective March 13, 2023. UNM Health and Health Sciences programs and clinical areas will continue to maintain their COVID-19 vaccine requirements. We continue to strongly recommend that the entire Lobo community should keep up to date with vaccinations, stay at home if sick, and follow CDC guidelines for all COVID-19 matters.

What this means in practice is:

  • individuals with a hire date of March 13, 2023, or later are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination or apply for an exemption;
  • students enrolling in classes after March 13, 2023, are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination or apply for an exemption; and
  • UNM will no longer require students, faculty, and staff to report COVID-19-positive tests through the online portal or upload COVID-19 vaccination records.

We have also retired the Bring Back the Pack website and instead are linking to COVID-19 Updates and Answers from the home page banner. Here you will find Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and be able to submit your own questions.

Winter Intersession Housing Opens October 19th

During the Winter Break, RLSH traditional and suite style housing close. Residents of these halls who wish to stay on campus during the winter break must apply for Winter Intercession Housing. This includes residents of Alvarado, Coronado, DeVargas, Hokona, Laguna, and Santa Clara.

Why do the traditional halls close during the winter break?

Servicing large buildings can be very expensive! Since so many students leave during the break, it is cost-effective and energy efficient to shut down the traditional halls during the break. That said, Resident Lobos who wish to apply for Winter Housing will be allowed to stay in their respective residence halls for a flat rate of $450.

Lomas Structure Parking Access Cards are available for pick-up

Exterior of the Parking and Transportation Office

Great news! Proximity cards for “S” parking permit holders to access the Lomas Parking Structure are now in stock and available for pickup at the UNM Parking & Transportation Services Business Office.

 If you have an “S” parking permit and have not yet received your proximity card, please come to the UNM PATS office, located at 2401 Redondo Drive NE, as soon as possible (but no later than Friday, Sept. 10); and remember you will need to show your UNM ID.

Please Note: Your “S” permit for the Lomas parking structure requires use of a proximity card to lift the gate-arm so you can access/exit the parking structure. The entrance and exit gate arms at the Lomas parking structure have temporarily been turned off because the proximity cards were on backorder with the supplier. Now that the cards are available, we will reactivate the gate arm by close-of-business on Friday, Sept. 10, and you will no longer be able to access parking in the Lomas structure without your proximity card.

 Please call UNM PATS at the number below if you have any questions.
