Network and Power Outage Oct 14 & 15
October 9, 2023

To allow UNM IT Networks to perform regular maintenance, in coordination with the Administrative Technology working groups, planned maintenance work will completed on the following date.

  • Saturday, October 14, 10 p.m., through Sunday, October 15, 2 a.m.
  • UNM IT Networks will perform planned maintenance on the firewalls to complete critical maintenance and upgrades. Completing regular maintenance activities allows UNM IT to make improvements to enhance network performance, security, and usability of IT services.
  • Depending on the nature of the work being completed, please expect the UNM wireless networks, UNM VPN and services that require UNM VPN for access to be unavailable or intermittently unavailable during this time.
  • Network and Services provided by UNM Health and Health Sciences are NOT impacted by this outage.
  • See below for a partial list of major services that may be unavailable or intermittently unavailable during this time.
  • Additionally, there will be a power test on all buildings on Sunday, October 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

What does this mean for you?

  • The UNM VPN and wireless networks will be unavailable or intermittently unavailable for UNM users.
  • See potentially impacted services below.
  • Individuals who have access to a smartphone device with a cellular data plan will be able to access the internet and certain cloud services, such as Canvas, using their personal cellular service/device. To ensure that your device is only connecting to your cellular provider during the UNM network outage, disconnect it from WiFi during that period. Many smartphone devices with cellular service can be used as a HotSpot to connect other devices, such as a laptop, to the internet. For information on fees and settings needed to use your phone as a HotSpot please contact your cellular service provider. The wired network will be available for on-campus UNM users.
  • During the power test on Sunday, the building access and building power will be impacted for a few minutes. While the test is being completed, building card swipe access in secured buildings may be interrupted for 3-5 minutes.

  • Network: Saturday, October 14th, 10 p.m., through Sunday, October 15th, 2 a.m.
  • Power: Sunday, Octover 15th, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
