2026/27 Winter Intersession Housing Application OPENS ON OCTOBER 14
(APPLICATION DUE NOVEMBER 23, 2026)
During the Winter Break, RLSH traditional and suite style housing close. Residents of these halls who wish to stay on campus during the winter break must apply for Winter Intercession Housing. This includes residents of Alvarado, Coronado, DeVargas, Hokona, Laguna, and Santa Clara.
Why do the traditional halls close during the winter break?
Servicing large buildings can be very expensive! Since so many students leave during the break, it is cost-effective and energy efficient to shut down the traditional halls during the break. That said, Resident Lobos who wish to apply for Winter Housing will be allowed to stay in their respective residence halls for a flat rate of $750.
The deadline for Winter Housing applications is Monday, November 23.
WINTER HOUSING FAQs
What about my stuff? If you plan to come back in the spring, leave it in your room. It'll be there when you get back. If you're not coming back in the spring, EVERYTHING needs to be out by December 11th at 2 p.m.
What if my flight leaves on Sunday and I need an extension? Late Stay Applications Open November 16- 30.
The Late Stay Request application needs to be requested from our Operations team (email rlshoperations@unm.edu) if you need a small extension to the general closing date/time. Again, traditional and suite-style Halls will be closing on Saturday, Dec 11 at 6:00pm. Late Stay extension only goes until 12 p.m. on Sunday, Dec 13. If you need longer than that, you will need to do a Winter Housing application and it’s the full flat rate of $750. No prorates. Late Stay Application closes on 11/30 at 11:59pm.
When/Where do I sign up? Registration will open on Wednesday, October 14 at 2:00 P.M. and will be available on the Residence Dashboard.
Do I need winter housing? Residents in the traditional/suite style halls must vacate the halls by Dec 11, 2026 until Jan 15, 2027. If you are a traditional/suite hall resident, and you need to live on campus, you need to sign up for winter housing.
If I live in the apartments, do I need to fill this out? No, and it won’t be available for apartment residents to complete. Only traditional/suite students will have access to complete the winter housing sign up.
Where will I be living? With our current capacity, it is highly unlikely that we will move all residents to the apartment style halls and anticipate having residents in traditional halls for the winter intersession. We will move as few people as possible, but we may consolidate to reduce the workload of our staff over the break. Consolidation / moves will be decided once the winter sign up closes.
How much does it cost? $750. There is no prorating or adjustment. If you are here for any portion of the winter housing period, it’s $750.
When do I have to sign up by? Monday, November 23, 2026, at 11:59PM.
